The outstanding feature of the period under report was the second world war and its repercussions on the activities of the Forest Departments. [...] The war put a heavy strain on the forest resources of the country and generally speaking the normal activities of the Departments had to be expanded to meet the unprecedented de mands of the Defence Department for timber ; this resulted in unavoidable overfelling in most forests. [...] The Assam Survey Department surveyed the existing boundaries of the Morapagladiya Reserve in Kamrup Division demarcated the disputed Bhutan boundary of a portion of the Khalingduar Reserve in Darrang Division and settled the Tripura boundary dispute in the Longai Reserve in the Sylhet Division. [...] Forest Organisation--(a) The combined post of the Inspector General of Forests to the Government of India and the President Forest Research Institute and Colleges was held throughout the period under review by Sir Herbert Howard. [...] The number of officers in the Service was only two one in the Punjab and the other in Bombay during the period under review.
