Under the above scheme all the Officers and Subordinates of the Public Works Department in the Presidency of Bengal and in the Territories administered by the Goverment of India are ranged in regular gradation according to a fixed scale ascending by connected steps from the Sub-Overseers and Sub-Surveyors at the bottom of the list to the Chief Engineer at the top. [...] The Neemuch and Nusseerabad Division of Public Works has likewise been added to the charge of the Chief Engineer of the Saugor and Nerbudda Territories and placed under the general control of the Government of the North-Western Provinces. [...] the East crossing of the Burrakur River which forms one of the most serious obstructions to the traffic of the Grand Trunk Road preference was given to the plan of bridge having iron girders for the centre and 75-feet arches for the sides and this has accordingly been recommended for the sanction of the Home Authorities. [...] Major Jacob at that time Vne Political Superintendent on the Frontier of Sindh expresses himself to the following effect in reference to the contemplated Canal :— The experience now acquired of the value of the soil of this Desert since the enlargement of the Begaree and Noorwah Canals shows that a supply of the Indus water alone is required to convert the virgin soil of the vast plain now ly [...] The question of the improvement of the fortifications of the Fort of Attock has received the attentive consideration of Government.
