Here again the volume and scope of the demonstration work and of the peripatetic training schools giving instruction in the homes of the weavers is on a. greater scale than has been possible in other directions and for other cottage industries because of the importance of the weaving industry as the largest home industry in the prvince and because the demonstration parties and schools were [...] When the Department of Industries took over the subject of technical education from the Department of Education on the advice of the Rolland Commission in 1920 the actual expenditure from the deparments budget as grants-in-aid" to technical and industrial schools and for the maintenance of the three Government technical and industrial schools at Barisal Rangpur and llogra was Rs. [...] The resources of the dpartment did not however permit of providing training in the manufacture of any but the most ordinary kinds of washing soap and the demonstration staff appointed for this purpose in the middle of 192S continued its useful work in the year under report but twards the end of the year the party was"12 disbanded on the ground of financial stringency. [...] The remaining two were of the nature of special classes held for the benefit of the apprentices of the Bengal Tanning Institute to enable them to pick up the process of the manufacture of soap which is used as an ingredient in the tanning industry. [...] During the year under report much of the work of these panics was concetrated in the Sadar and Brahmanberia subdivisions of the Tippera district where scarcity and distress followed the severe floods of the year 1929 in response to the request of the Commisioner and local officers.
