[Extract from the Minute* of the Senate dated the 23rd Angu.st 1919.] I beg to move that the Reports of the proceedings of the Executive Committee of the Council of Post-Graduate Teaching in Arts dated the 22nd July 1919 apd the proceedings of the Executive Committee of the Council of Post-; Graduate Teaching' in Science datethe 49tli August 1919 be confirmed by the Senate. [...] The abstruse nature of the subject and its special linguistic difficulties makes a large influx of students an impossibility 12 at least for the present but in view of the vast extent of the topic and its vital importance in the scientific study of the Oriental Classics and of the Indian Vernaculars it is essential that the staff should be substantially strengtened ; and I am glad to be able [...] The task of publcation of so many volumes of typical selections prepared by an army of scholars will strain our funds and the energies of our Press to the utmost but we live in hope encouraged by the liberality of philanthropists like the Maharaja of Coseibazar in Bengal the Maharaja of Sonepur in Orissa and the Maharaja of Indore in Rajputtina who have all promised to contribute handsome [...] The Philosophical Magazine the Physeat I:eview the Astrophysical Journal the Journal of the Chemical Society of London the Journal of the American Chemical Society and last but not least the Proceedings of the Royal Society of London have during the last twelve months published numerous papers on a variety of subjects by our teachers and students. [...] The first volume of the Journal of the Department of Letters is in the Press and it is a source of disappointment to our lecturers that the Press is not able to expedite the work of publication.
