[...] In the year 1928 the Committee of the Federation directed their attention to this matter and found that there was no one compilation from which the history of the salt industry in India the effect of the duty etc: could be traced. [...] Fakirjee Cowasjee of Karachi a member of the Committee of the Federation was good enough to interest himself in preparing the final copy for the approval of the Committee of the Federation. [...] The Committee have ordered publication of this in the earnest hope that it may be useful to the public at large when the question of making India selcontained regarding her salt supply is engaging the attention of the Tariff Board. [...] The higher the price the lower the sales.
