Such being the case the address of the First President of the Congress aroused interest by reason of the occasion and also by reason of the personality of the President who besides being the trusted servant of the Tamil people is also one of the greatest Ceylonese of the day. [...] The importance of the occasion on which the speech was delivered and the substance of the contrbution made many members and supporters of the Congress call for the publication of the Presidential Address. [...] This is ad tadi= cation of things to come wherein the machinery of the State is being perverted to the advantage of one section of the community and the General Exchequer is saddled with the questionable luxury of expending the tax-payers' *oaestoni-( 4 ) the administration of Buddhist Temporalities. [...] The very next day a Sinhalese back-bencher introduced a substantive motion questioning the ruling of the Speaker and upon the debate that ensued it was found that the Ministers and members of the major community voted on one side and the representatives of the minorities vnfert"( 5 ) on the other.
