The length of the growth period and the moisture conditions are the chief factors in the production of Indian wheat and these materially influence the varieties grown and the practices of the various agricultural tracts. [...] varying degrees of fertility through the North-West Provinces to the Panjab and clown the tributaries of the Indus to the basin of the combined stream until it reaches the swamps of the western coast. [...] The following general description of the soils of the Deccan trap and of the crystalline tract are taken from the Imperial Gazetteer of India :— " The Deccan trap formation which extends over about 200 000 square miles covers the greater portion of the Bombay Presidency the whole of Bear the western third of the Central Provinces and the western half of Hyderabad. [...] A line drawn from the foot of the hills in the north-west corner of the Jalpaigurf District to the Further details of the soils and general agriculture of the United Provinces are to be found in Moreland's Agriculture of the United Provinces Allahabad tgo4. [...] There are three great divisions of the Madras Presidency ; the land between the Western Ghats and the sea the strip of country between the Eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal and the central plateau between the Western and Eastern Ghats.
