of the sun the moon the stars the heaven the earth the waters the trees the winds the clouds the man ; the Producers of the day and night ; without beginning 6 and without end7 ; All-pervading e All-wise Alpowerful ; the Righteous the Undeceiables ; Sole worthy of worship the Highest the Greatest"' ; the Best ; the Infallible Rewarder of all good deeds 12 the greatest Increaser" [...] It was only in consequence of the later accretions and excrescencies in the shape of the personified entities of the different phases of good and evil in the material and moral world wholly absent and unknown in the authentic utterances of the prophet Zoroaster contained in his writing of the Gâtha's and foreign to the spirit and scope of his commands as well in consequence of the disregard and [...] It exemplifies the fierce and unceasing struggle between good and evil the temtations to tread the path of evil the difficulties in the way of pursuing a life of purity and virtue the alternations of hope and despair the temporary triumph of sin over virtue ending however in the ultimate overthrow of evil; and it serves as a complete though succinct exposition of moral philosophy of a m [...] fication of Spentomainyush the principle of good with Ahura Mazda Himself and to the belief that the world was created and governed by two Gods each independent of the other the one good and the other evil the one the creator and the other36 ) the destroyer. [...] The priest is the spirtual guide and moral preceptor and his duties are to conserve the religion to inculcate the worship of God to enforce the decrees traditions and practices of the good Law and to promote the instruction of the people in the matter of virtue and vice.
