The contrary is the truth ; for colour is al mportant and there is a great difference between a scheme of colour uited to the subject and the use of the brightest colours in the paint lox chosen almost at random. [...] The attention of the students must be carefully drawn to the relative proportions of the objects. [...] The pencil may be held between the eye and the objects so as to estimate the apparent sizes or parts but must not afterwards be laid upon the drawing paper in order to transfer thereto the measurement. [...] The walls are at right angles to each other at the point A. The corner A is :3' to the left of the spectator and 3' within the picture. [...] SUBJECT OF THE COMPOSITION :--- 1 Spring ". Or " The arrival ". 2. The general lines of the composition and the arrangement of the masses of light and shade are the most important features to be considered though as much finish should be incorporated in the Composition as possible.
