As regards the Bombay Suburban District the drop can be attributed to the fact that statistics available with the Bombay District Police were for the first 9 months only of the year as the major portion of this district was transferred to the control of the Bombay City Police from 1st October 1945. [...] Contributory reasons given for the continued improvement in crime figures are (i) the possible revulsion of popular feeling against the senseless crime wave of 1942 1943 and 1944 ; (ii) the preventive action taken on the borders of the district by Special Ai med Patrols and the saturation of the troubled areas with additional Policemen and (iii) the cessation of politico-criminal activities with [...] In Ahmedabad City the increase is ascribed to the rapid expansion of the City and to the rising tide of crime despite the preventive and detective measures taken by the Police which need further intensification. [...] In Panch Mahals the increase is ascribed to the general impoverishment and criminality of Bhils ; to the failure of the maize crop and to the steep rise in the prices of essential commodities. [...] The gang case against the seventeen Katkaris which was registered in the Karjat Police Station of the Kolaba District and was reported last year was still pending trial at the end of the year.
