The western scarps of the plateau drain towards the Hathi Nala in the Ampani plain and the drainage of Karlapat is taken north almost entirely by the Sagada Nala to the Tel river and ultimately to the Mahanadi. [...] The climate of the plateau is moist and cool and it is evident from the following statement that the precipitation is considerably greater on these highlands than it is in the plains forming the northern half of the State.
