the I O in the Evening to the Choultry Plain near the Seapoy Choultry the next Evening (the llth') part of the Forces took post at the House S: Gardens now belonging to MTuring part in the Beetle Tope opposite and in other advantageous places to defend the Passes. [...] The Engineer employed in making two Batterys one of three Guns to cover the old North East Bastion and another of 4 Guns on the Glacis to the Eastward a. little to the Southward of [the] South Flank of the same Bastion extending from the Covered w[ay] to the surf which Work will play entirely along the Beach to the ja word lost] of the Fort. [...] That he went into the Black Town by the back of the Hospital and he reports that all the Enemy's European Horse are quartered in the Street from the Elephant's Garden to the small Portuguese Church (near Fracos Garden) the Artillery people and Stores in a cross Street to the Wettward of that Garden. [...] That the Enemy have a Battery of four Guns by the Sea side Compleated and the Guns mounted the face of the Battery is in a circular Form so that he judges some of the Guns will bear upon the Road and some enfilade the East front of the Town. [...] The Governour and Principal Officers having considered the Situation of the Batteries which according to the Intelligence received the Enemy are erecting ; Are of Opinion that the most necessary Work to be done at present is to erect Traverses on and to raise the Parapets of the Roy?l Bastion and at the same time or as soon as a sufficient Number of Workthen can be Spared to close the Opening
