Owing to the prolongation of the South-West monsoon conditions in the Bay and the weak incidence generally of the North-East monsoon the rainfall during the period October to December was below the normal in the south of the Peninsula. [...] How conservative this estimate is s will be apparent from the fact that the Director of Agrculture Punjab calculates that in the Punjab alone the intrduction of improved varieties of wheat and cotton has been the means of adding five crores of rupees to the farming profits of the cultivators. [...] The Act came into force throughout India at the beginning of the 1925-26 cotton season and from that date it has been compulsory on all press-owners to mark every bale of cotton pressed with the special mark of the press the year and the running number of the bale and to maitain records of the ownership of all cotton pressed. [...] During the year the Committee completed its investigation into the question of the fumigation of American cotton to prvent the introduction of the boll-weevil. [...] The speed with Which the equipment of16 AGRICULTURAL OPERATIONS IN INDIA 1924-25 the Institute has been completed is a tribute both to the energy of the Director and the staff and to the very generous assistance which the Governors and Director have received from the officials of the Central India Agency and of the Indore State.
