[...] The book embodies the results of a scientific enquiry by the author from the historical standpoint into successive stages in the genesis and increasing organic complexity of a system of thought in India supposed to have evolved out of a nucleus as afforded by the discourses of Gautama the Buddha."14 CALCUTTA UNIVERSITY PUBLICATIONS Kindred Sayings on Buddhism by Mrs. [...] In the second part the author has discussed the different application of the terms in the two periods of the making of Mahayana Buddhism and of Mahayana teachers. [...] His method of treatment is strictly scientific and he comes to a number of interesting conclusions among which the most important is the establishment of the historic personality of Vasudeva-Krishna and the determination of the doctrines of the old Bhagavata sect.
