[...] To help with commissariat arrangements an Italian hotel-keeper from Darjeeling named De Righi was added to the expedition.32 THE KANGCHENJUNGA ADVENTURE Leaving Darjeeling the expedition proceeded by the Singalila Ridge and the Chumbab La Pass to the Yalung Valley and having ascended the Yalung Glacier attacked the south-western face of Kangchenjunga. [...] As the terrific precipices leading upwards Permanent camps were established from Yaktang at the end of the Zemu Valley and numbered from that point."38 THE ICANGCHENJUNGA ADVENTURE to the lowest point in the North Ridge between Kanchenjunga and the Twins were quite hopeless they dcided to attack a spur or ridge which leads up to the North Ridge and joins it at the point where a conspicuou [...] Owing to the weather the snowfall the great variations of temperature and the quality of the ice these ice ridges of Kangchenjunga are completely different from those encountered in the Alps.
