The Canal was opened which paved the way for the era of navigation to the east by steam and for the construction of the first large wet dock. [...] The success of the ring 9Life of Jamsetji N. Tata spindle logically led to a fresh survery of the improvement of the indigenous varieties of long stapled cotton and the more extensive cultivation there-of on the Egyptian method.
