I. The following statement summarises the sea-borne trade foreign and coasting inclusive of Government transactions of the Bombay Presidency for the year ending March 31st 1914 and includes the figures of the preceding four years and the average of the five years ending with 1908-1909 :— (II Foreign Trade (Private). [...] With the contraction in the imports of treasure which had helped to place the value of the total foreign trade of Bombay above that of Calcutta during the preceding two years the foreign trade of Bombay has fallen below that of Calcutta. [...] The increased activity in nearly all branches of the trade of the port is manifested in the financial results of the administration of the Port Trust the surplus receipts realized during tiie year under review being about Rs. [...] The most noteworthy event in the history of the port during the year was the opening of the new Alexandra Dock on the 21st of March 19 t4. [...] 9. The following figures which compare the average value of the trade in the three years ending with 1900-01 with that of the trade in each of the last five years show that in the last 13 years the import trade has expanded by 139 per cent.
