23 lakhs while the contraction in the exports of Indian produce is the most serious recorded since 1908-09 and brings the value of the trade to below the level of the trade of 1910-11. [...] But whatever may be the results of a statistical comparison of the movements of commodities at the three ports the activity in the port of Bombay throughout the year is not in dispute the facilities available both at the port and on the railways leading to the port were always fully taxed and on occasions fell short of the demands of trade. [...] The change which has met with the concurrence of the Chambers of Commerce has been carried out in pursuance of the policy laid down at the Imperial Conference of 1907 regarding the adoption of a uniform basis in respect of the statistics of trade of the British Empire. [...] In the following table the value of the imports and exports of the Port of Bombay is exhibited under these four groups the statistics of the previous four years being reconstructed so as to admit of a comparison of the trade of 1912-13 with that of the remaining years of the quinquennial period :- Articles. [...] From the subjoined statement which compares the average value of the trade in the three years ending with 1900-01 with that of the trade in each of the last five years it will be seen that in the last 12 years the import trade has more than doubled itself and that the increase recorded in the year under review is the largest in the quinquennial period with the in 1910-11:— exception Rs.
