Department of Agricutlure Madras. Report of the Work of Palur Agricultural Station for 1927-28

1928

An account of the local conditions and agricultural practices in the vicinity of the farm is appended as appendix I to the report. [...] The severe drought during the flowering stage of paddy resulted in the production of a large quantity of chaff and undeveloped grain which reduced the yield. [...] As regards the effect of the several rotations on the nuts it was found that the three year rotational fields contained the least number of nuts followed by the four year rotation. [...] This is the sixth year of the commencement of the experiment and the third year since the modification was started. [...] The addition of phosphates in the form of bone meal depressed the yield while in the case of superphosphate the increase is 19'6 per cent over the standard but even here the increase is very much belowthat obtained by groundnut cake and ammonium sulphate at 150 nitrogen per acre.
