Department of Agriculture Bombay. Bulletin No. 90 of 1918. Work on the Manjri Farm for the Years 1915-1918

1919

J. Mollison late Isnpeotor of Agriculture who began the study of a more economic system of manuring and irrigation of cane in the canal area of the Deccan by taking up a plot of nine acres on the present farm site. [...] In the laboratory the ripeness of canes the richness of different varieties and the effect of the different manures and other field treatment are studied. [...] 10 0 0 10 0 0 18 *Supervision 30 0 0 80 0 0 19 Rent of building and office expenses.15 0 0 15 0 0 20 Miscellaneous 2 0 0 2 0 0 Grand Total... [...] The difference between the yields in cane of the farmyard manure plot and the saran-hemp green immured plot is not very striking whether the average yields for the total period when supplemented by the farmy and manure or for the last four years when only green manure was used are considered. [...] The growing of a crop of sann-hemp precludes the growing of paying crops of groundnut or something else in the season previous to planting of the cane so it becomes necessary to consider the financial side of this system as compared to the system of taking of a crop of groundnut instead of a sann-hemp clop and giving the coarse manure as farmyard manure.
