A Pali Grammar

This attempt at writing a short grammar of the Pali language is the result of the difficulties experienced in teaching Pali to the students of this side of the country. [...] The vowels are :—a a i 1 u and The dipthongs are e and o. Of the vowels a i and u are short and a i and a are long. [...] When ya is in combination with ha a vowel inter e. g. S. hyah—hiyyo (yesterday); but sometimes there may be a change in the position of the letters as S. tuhyaria —tuyhath ; S. bitihya—bdhiya and bdhira. [...] S in combination with ka is changed into kkh as in S. caktiu—cakkhu ; but it is sometimes changed into cha e.g. [...] The fifth casending singular is sometimes formed by the suffix 'to' as Buddhato ; this 'to' is the same as the Sanskrit suffix tas which is a substitute for the ablative singular.
