On the graduates of today and on the young men and women who are still pursuing their careers at the University rests a treendous responsibility for it is they who in the near future in politics in the professions and in comerce and industry will have to shoulder the burden of building up the great democracies of this land. [...] Some of you may remember that the White Paper containing proposals for the expansion of the English system of Education laid before Parliament in 1943 began with the words— Upon the education of the people of this country the fate of this country depends". [...] It is inevitably to the young men and women of our.Universities that we must turn for the personnel of the armies that ire to undertake the great campaign of educating the Illiterate masses so that this Province and this country may take their rightful place in the comity of nations. [...] As this is the final meeting of the Committee of the Red Cross Appeal for the year 1945-48 I would like to say a few words about plans for the Red Cross in future and to express my appreciation or the work done by the Committee during the past year. [...] The seeds of the preventlorf Ile in the betterment of the health and the nourishment of the people in general.
