Report of the Sanskrit College Committee

Wg the members of the Committee appointed by the Government ot4 Bengal in the Ministry of Education to make enquiries and venom mendations in regard to the Sanskrit College and the working of the Sanskrit Associations and the system of aided Tols have the honour to submit the following report. [...] The Committee is also requested to co cider and to advise on the future activities of the Tol Department of' the College in respect of the eucouragvnent of Sanskrit studies in the province and the pursuit of such studies in the indigenots Sanskrit Nis. [...] But the connection of the institution with the TTniveiTity made no difference to its intensive Sanskrit teaching which continued to be the staple of the curriculum of the institution from a lower stage in the school up to the higher stage of the college the University sub jects being studied secondarily and additionally. [...] The Sanskrit Collegiate School is an integral and inseparable part of the Sanskrit College both joining in one aim the harmonious blending of the culture of the east and the west by air intensive study of Sanskrit as well as the study of some Uwiversity courses The whole institution was originally known as the Sanskrit College and tts one pm pose was the instruction of sous of the bondrfide Pan [...] This is the more advisable as the Principal of the Sanskrit College has on important function in the social and reliFioulife.11 f the llindus in Calcutta and in his capacity as the Secretary of the Sanskrit Association has to be in close touch with and to regulate the work of the Brahmin Pandits engaged in teaching all over the province.
