THE subject of this brief memoir was born in the metropolis of British India on Saturday the 15th Assar of the Bengalec year 1236 corresponding to the 27th June of the year of grace 182g memorable as the year in which the Sail rite was abolished by Lord William Bentinck and the Brahmo Samaj was established by Raja Ram Mohun Roy. [...] about the age of eighty-five so that the date of his ' birth may safely be placed somewhere about the year 5763 i.e a year or two before the acquisition by the English in 5765 of the Dewani of Bengali Behar and Orissa: His.friend:and patron Ram Doolal Dey Who died at the age of seventy-three on the"TALE OF GRISH CHUNbER CHOSE. [...] On one of these occasions a 7attra or operatic performance was held the subject of which was the assumption by the god Krishna of the disguise of a foreign maid " in order to win back the love of his mistress Radha after a love-quarrel. [...] Babe Shib Chunder Deb who was a distinguished alumnus of the Hindu College was on the other hand so highly pleased with the way in which Grish Chunder had acquitted himself on being tested as to his knowledge of English by the late Babu Grish Chunder Deb Head 1taster of the Bare School that he was glad to have him for his son-in-law ovelooking the poverty for the sake of the prestige o [...] David Hare gave up for the benefit of the College the piece of land he owned on the north side of the College Square." The foundatiostone of the College building was laid on the 25th February 1824 and the building was completed in January 1825.
