The compilation of a grammar on the lines indicated in the above was first suggested to the undersigned by the Vice-Chancellor of the University the Hon'ble Mr. [...] In order to meet a wish expressed in many quarters that order of Persons in the Paradigms of Verbs which is customary in Indian Grammar has been adopted—the 'First Person' of Western Grammar thus coming in the third place and the (Third Person ' in the first place. [...] The following rules apply throughout to the changes of initial and final letters of complete words (rrg) ; and to some extent to the changes of letters in the body of words.
