Mineral Resources of the Damodar Valley and Adjacent Region and Their Utilisation for Industrial Development

1950

Khedker has given in the following pages and the suggestions that he has made regarding the further development of the mineral industries of the area will it is hoped prove of value both to the Corporation entrusted with the implementation of the scheme and also to private interests concerned with mineral production and with the utilisation of minerals. [...] W. D. West Director Geological Survey of India entrusted me with the writing of an account of the mineral resources of the region which would be within the compass of the multipurpose activities envisaed in the Damodar Valley Project. [...] PHYSIOGRAPHY OF THE DAMODAR VALLEY OPERATIONAL AREA1 For the purpose of the present account it is considered necessary to include the area which would come within the scope of any of the activities conteplated under the Damodar Valley Project. [...] The physiographic features of the Damodar valley and the adjacent rgion is essentially the expression of the structural controls exercised by the rock formations which occur in it. [...] The principal basins of the Gondwana rocks in the Damodar valley are distributed in an east-west belt from the Hutar coalfield in the west to the Raniganj coalfield in the east.
