The Founder-Secretary to the Society then addresseed the Gentlemen the Calcutta Literary Society was founded in the year Eighteen hundred and seventy-five by the humble individual who is now standing before you with the help of some of his then young friends—the advanced pupils of various educational institutions of the city—who were then associated with him in the work in the very year when [...] The Rajah hfahasae on taking his Chair addressed the assembly thus :- Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose and Gentlemen :— It is with a feeling of deep emotion and great delight that I take upon myself the call of duty of welcoming in our midst one of the greatest and the most distinguished of the scientific men of the present day. [...] As Chemical Examiner to the Government of Bengal -your services were most valuable and you enj yed the full confidence of the Govconment the Courts of Law and the :Aerzeral public in the discharge t he t esponsible duties of ynkir c ffice. [...] You h3ve been ac ively working in the Senate of the Calcutta University (or the last twenty-two years and as an Exanziner in Arts and Science in Medicine and in public Health yea enjoy the confidence of the Crniversity as well as of the examinees. [...] The following gracious rep 'y was received from Fie'd-Marshal H R. H the Duke of Connaught :- Dear Sir I am desired by H. R. H. the Duke of Connaught to thank von for the copies of the Welcome Address presented to His Royal Highness by the Calcutta Literary Society to the occaaion of his visit to India.
