The Badulipur Tea Company Limited

1952

During the first few months of the 1951 sales prices were quite satisfactory but it soon became apparent that buyers could afford within the artificial limits of the tea ration and price control to ignore the thinner lighter types and to buy only the strong liquoring tea which the public were demanding because it produced more cups to the lb. [...] Turning to the affairs of our own Company for 1951 unfavodrable weather with two partial droughts in the early part of the season made us afraid that the crops would fall considerably short of those of the previous year. [...] With the assistance of the Forward Contract mentioned in my last statement and good prices obtained in the early part of the season our revenue increased by £21 000 but on the other side of the account expenditure rose by over £70 000. [...] The result of our operations for the year was a credit on Revenue Account of £18 326 and in view of the decline in the market we may be thankful that the balance was on the right side. [...] What of the future ? Two factors are of outstanding importance the course of the Tea market and the level of expenditure and both demand action by Governments.
