TO form a true eftimate of the opinion in which the natives in India and the Brit nation may be induced to coincide as to the treaties and arrangements of paft times at prefent urged fo ftrongly and by the higeft authority on the feelings and honour of the nation as prejudices deeply rooted in the minds and affections of the natives of India as before slated I shall curforily state the s [...] Without entering into the conteft of the parties of that day it is evident that treties or reports of treaties alarmed the Governor of Calcutta ; that the retreat of Abdallah before the Vizir encouraged Meer jaffier to feek the aid of 3o 000 Mahratabs at that time affembled in two bodies; the oue in Cattack and the other at Sitangur ; and the affiftance of the Vizir to drive Shah Za [...] On the other hand the river Goadaveri which delcribes the limits of Ellore northerly curves fo much in its greater branch to the finith on aproaching the fea as to diminifh confideably the eaft fide of the fquare of this prvince.; and though the diftrid of Polavram dependent on Rajemundry among the hills on the fouthern bank of the fame river be a farther encroachment on the regu [...] But in the juft eftimation of a commercial people all the partial difadvantages we have named would be more than counterbalanced by a fingle uncultivated produaion of the greateft utility if proper ufe was made of the frefts of Rajemundry ; which from the commencement of the hills along the banks of the Goadaveri to Palouncha on the frotiers of Commamet yield a fuperabundance of the bef [...] At this time Oria the Rajah of the country of the fame name feparated from the reft of Orifa on the north by the Chilca lake having died without ifilie a difpute arose for the fucceffion between 114ngal Rai the adopted fon and Thornier the coufin of the deceafed.
