[...] It was then decided to issue this volume annually and the present which is the fifth issue brings the figures down to the end of 1886. [...] They would add greatly and increasingly to the bulk and cost of the volume and as they can always be referred to in the first three issues by those who may desire to refer to them it was decided in 1886 to confine the record of fortnightly prices in the fourth and future issues to those of the year. [...] These are published regularly in the Gazette of India and it is from the returns published in the Gazette that the figures in this volume have been extracted the districts named in this record having been selected as typical of the different parts of each province.
