The main rivers Damodar and Barakar carry the maximum volume of discharge in the month of August while the Bokharo has the maximum in September and the Usri in July. [...] Like the floods of 1947 the river Barakar registered the maximum flood of the year in the first week of August but whereas in 1947 the maximum flood of the Damodar occurred in the first week of September this year the two floods in the Damodar were comparable to each other and some of the sites registered the highest flood level of the year in one flood and some in the other. [...] Of these three floods the Bokharo registered the highest in the September flood and the Usri in the August flood but while in the case of the Bokharo river thiS peak was the maximum durini the year the highest flood level in the Usri was recorded in another flood in July the peak discharge being about 12 000 cusecs at 12 p.m. [...] of the total monsoon discharge passed during the five days from the morning of the 2nd August to the morning of the 9th August. [...] In Table VI however the beginning of the flood noted in column 2 is the beginning of the previous flood and the time of rise is the time from this instant to the peak on 5th August 1948.
