Though Ranade recognised the preciouness of immaterial good he realised that the advance of India was impossible without attention to the economic needs of the country. [...] 179 Indian Economics It will be patent to the most superficial student of his Essays on Indian Economics that Ranade was ever ready to avail himself of all possible opportunities to impress on his coutrymen the need to promote the diversity of occupations by increase of manufactures to check the growing ruralisation of the people as the result of the decay of lop.1 industries and of the men [...] Hence the need for the cleansing of men's hearts for the stirring of concience for the re-hearing of the voice of God witin us. [...] This is the creed for the propagation of which by 'exhortation and example the Industrial Association of Western India was started and I feel sure it will soon become the creed of the whole nation and ensure the permanent triumph of the modern spirit in this ancient land.
