Considerable interst was taken in the proceedings of this Committee by the intelligentsia and particularly by the members of the legal fraternity and the opportunity was not lost to stage a number of demonstrations at which the repeal of all the regulations was urged. [...] In August it was the fate of Dera Ismail Khan to provide the scene of one of the most serious communal riots in the history of the Province. [...] Plans were accordingly worked out with the approval of the Government of India for the application to the Province on the 24th of December of the Emergency Powers Ordinance the Uulawful Associations Ordinance and the Unlawful Instigation Ordnance together with the arrests on the same night of Abdul Ghaffar Khan his brother Doctor Khan Sahib the latter's son Sadullah Khan and C2azi Ataullah [...] F. ADMINISTRATION REPORT Chapter II—Protection and the preceding two triennia were as follows :— The progressive decrease both in the number of trasactions and the value of the property dealt with is due principally to the shortage of money and the contraction of agricultural credit owing to the fall in prices. [...] The big drop in the demand and collections of the fluctuating revenue was accounted for by the decrease in the area cultivated due to lack of rain in the Dera Ismail Khan District.
