GEOGRAPHY OF KARNATAKA THE Karnataka country for the purpose of its history has been taken to comprise that part of Dakshinapatha which extends from the Godavari in the North down to the Kaveri in the South bordered on the West by the Arabian Sea and in the East extending approximately to 78° longitude. [...] As a reaction against the misrule of the Pallavas the gatahanihara passed into the hands of the Kadambas in e. _ - The Kadambas were the heirs to the gatavfihana empire in the south. [...] The sixth century which saw the decline of the Kadamba power witnessed the rise of the Rashtrakiitas Gangas and the Chalukyas into prominence.
