In carrying out the work of revision the previous edition of the Manual has been used as a basis and the greater portion of the matter contained in it has been incorporated in the present edition. [...] THE following Manual has been prepared under the instructions of Government and contains the most recent orders regarding the planting of trees along the sides of roads whether under the control of the Public Works Department of Government or of local bodies together with such technical information on the subject of propagtion maintenance and protection of trees the establishment and manag [...] The Government consider it very desirable that all District Officers Chairmen of the District Boards and Chairmen of Municipalities should endeavour to enlist the interest sympathy and hap of the neighborteng popultion in the preservation of roadside trees."2 Decision of 6. Officers requiring advice on technical matters questions should consult the Superintendent of the Botanical relating to [...] These documents should be submitted in duplicate annually through the following channels so as to reach the office of the Secretary Municipal Department of the Government of Bengal not later than the 1st May :- (a) In the case of the Public Works Department : from the office of the Public Works Department through the District Magistrate and the inspector of Local Works.
