e earnings from all sections with the exception of the Graving Docks show a satisfactory improvement the outstanding feature of the year's working being the increase in the traffic dealt with at the Foreign Import Jetties and at the Wet Docks which is reflected not only in the larger income from those sections but also in the receipts frOm river dues port dues and the terminals paid by the Ra [...] 5. The burden of the interest and sinking fund charges on the revenues of the Trust is being increasingly felt as the Commissioners are called upon to incur heavy capital expenditure from year to year in order that the growing requirements of the trade of the port may be met. [...] 6. So great has been the expansion of the traffic during the past five years that even with the additional berths constructed both at the Jetties and Docks( 7 ) the accommodation of the Port is altogether insufficient Vineet the requirments of the Shipping and the Trade. [...] The great advance which has taken place during the past two years in the tonnage of goods landed at the Jetties without any corresponding increase in the accommodation has naturally resulted in an increase in the number of detentions to vessels and in the duration of the detentions. [...] 21 000 in the additional cost of Maintenance and Repairs and the balance mainly in respect of the extra staff engaged to supervise the work of the sheds and the general establishment in connection with the improved system of sorting and deliveries.
