Administration Report on the Bombay Jail Department for the year 1911

1912

Sir I have the honour to submit the Annual Administration Report together with the usual statistical tables on the Prisons and Jails in the Bombay Presdency (including the Province of Sind and the Settlement of Aden) for the year 1911. [...] The increase in the Shikarpur Prison is due to the fact that the Prison was opened in the middle of 1910. [...] In the Deccan Gang the Sind Gang and Shikdrpur the increase is due to a greater daily poplation and in Shikarpur also to the fact that the Jail only opened in June 1910. [...] Nearly every Prison complains of the difficulty in getting good convict officers ; and this difficulty has been greatly intensified by the large number of releases on December 12th when the best behaved of the prisoners and therefore the best of the convict officers and the pick of prisoners eligible for promotion were released. [...] The cost of Police guards has been omitted as usual except in the case of the Central Prisons of Yeravda and Ahmedabad and the Special Prison of Thane where the guarding is undertaken by the Reserved Armed Warder Guard.
