A Lady’s Diary of the Siege of Lucknow Written for the Perusal of Friends at Home

This morning tidings came of the revolt of the Sappers and Miners at Roorkee near Meerut and of one of the officers Captain Fraser (husband to her of the Blenheim) being shot through the head. [...] The officers of the native regiments are to remain in the lines and do all they can to keep their men quiet ; but if the outbreak takes place they arc to retreat with the 32nd on the Residency ; and here we are to try and hold out as long as possible till European troops come to our rescue.
