2429 133-D dated 28th January 1939 to examine in detail the work which has been done and is being done by the Department of Industries for the furtherance of the industrial development of the Province and to report if any measures are necessary for augmenting the utility of the work done by the Department. [...] It is bounded on the north by the States of Kathiaar on the east by the States of the Central India Agency Central Provinces and Berar and Nizam's territory ; on the south by the Province of Madras and on the west by the Arabian Sea. [...] Rivers.—The most important rivers in the Province are the Narbada and the Tapti in the north and the Godavari and the Krishna in the south. [...] The Mawal or the Mallad tract comprising the western portions of the districts of Nasik Poona Satara and Ahmednagar in the Deccan and of the Belgaum and Dharwar districts in the Karnatak receive a rainfall of 35" to 50". [...] The Khandesh and the Desh tracts comprising the rest of Maharashtra and Karnatak receive only 20" to 30" of rain with the result that Ahmenagar Sholapur Bijapur and the eastern portions of the districts of Poona and Satara are particularly exposed to the risk of recurrent famines.
