REPORTS OF CIVIL CAUSES ADJUDGED BY THE COURT OF SUDUR UDALUT FOR THE PRESIDENCY OF BOMBAY BETWEEN THE YEARS A. D. 1800 AND A. D. 1824 ; DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS THE CASES IN THE FIRST BEING SELECTED FROM THE DECISIONS OF THE COURT IN BOMBAY BEFORE ITS REMOVAL TO SURAT ON THE 1ST JANUARY 1821 THOSE IN THE SECOND FROM THE DECISIONS AT SURAT UP TO THE 31ST MAY 1824; WITH AN APPENDIX AND AN INDE [...] THE Selection of the following Reports was directed along with other measures for the purpose of forming a body of information regarding the laws and usages in force among the Natives.under the Presidency which was hoped might ultimately form the Groundwork of a rational and Consistent digest for the guidance of the Courts of Justice. [...] having competent jurisdiction " but ob7 serving that the signatures of the Qazee and Mooftees were not afixed to the Hookm Namu as customary a reference was made to the Nuwab through Daniel Seton Esquire the Lieutenant Govenor by whose answer the authenticity of the Decree as passed by the Nuwab was ascertained and the fact that the signatures of the Law Officers were not invariably [...] by Motee the Assignee setting forth the passing of the above Deed by her husband and admitting the mortgage of the - upper part of the House to Joitah Duyal and the existence of debts to the amount of Rupees 13 000 due by her Husband to other Credtors prior to the Deed. [...] Thereupon the Court set aside the decree of the lower Court founded on the award of the Majority of the Punchayut and passed another ordering Appellant to give up the house to Respondent on receipt from him of the original sum advanced on the mortgage and of the money since paid total Rupees 3 540.
