Captain Oldfield the Executive Engineer of Agra having by direction of Government examined the Canal and bund reported on the 8th and 23rd February 1850 against the immediate adoption of the first proposal lest it should throw back the water of the Ootunghun into its old channel ; in favor of the 2nd and 3rd projects by repair and strengthening of the Futtehpoor bund by the construction of a [...] 999 dated the 1st April 1850 The effect of the works has been to " throw the great part if not the entire stream of the Ootun" hun into the bed of the Kharee a large and deep bed has " been excavated in the direction of the artificial cut and the " natural bed of the Ootunghun has been extensively silted up " below the mouth of the cut. [...] Thence a part of the flood escaped south of the Futtehpoor range through the opening in the hills at Mirza-Khan-ki-mundee while the mass of water impinged upon the Futtehpoor bund flowing for days continuously through the open breach of Kuneya Deyh and through the other minor sluices when opened towards the close of the season. [...] on the western frontier of the Pergunnah within the immediate influence of the Bhurtpoor bunds suffered much in this and the two preceding years from the inundation of their lands caused by the bursting of these works and this injury was prolonged by the unsesonable opening of the Dam sluices on the part of the Bhurtpoor authorities. [...] will convey some idea of the improvment in the resources of the Pergunnah caused by the overflow ; although the estimate is evidently much below the mark in consequence of two particulars of improvement only being admitted into the account to the exclusion of the third and fourth detailed in para.
