During the latter half of 1945 the Directrate of Industrial Statistics was created for the purpose of supervising and co-ordinating the administration of the Act by the Provincial Governments and for compiling analysing and publishing the results of the Census. [...] In many cases the factory owners and occupiers did not maintain the record in the way it was necessary for the preparation of the returns for the census and as such many returns had to be rejected forms had to be sent again and the field workers had to go to the various factories and advise the occupiers wherever necessary in filling the forms of returns. [...] For purposes of international comparison the United Nations Industrial classification number (both the [millibar of the major group and the number of the sub-group) has boon shown within brackets against each of the industries stated below. [...] The entire money value of the indirect benfits as shown in the tables has been included in the calculation of the average daily wages earned by the worker because a very large portion of the money value of these benefits falls to the share of the workers."ix 8. Cost of materials.— The questionnaire called for data on the quantity and purchase value of each material (other than fuel electricit [...] This measures the increase in the total value of commodities by the manufacturing process and is calculated by subtracting the cost of materials supplies containers fuel purchased electric energy contract work and the depreciation of fixed assets from the total value of products and work done by the industry for customers.
