The increase in the grant was due mainly to the introduction of the following new Schemes and expenses of others. [...] Cotton Hosiery Industry.—The Cotton Hosiery Industry in the united Provinces suffered a severe set back on account of the partition of India on the isth August 1947 in view of the fact that a large pecentage of the output of the local factories was sold in the Punjab North West Frontier Province etc. [...] Government took a serious note of the situation and this together with the improvement in the conditions led to starting of some of the tanneries. [...] of workmen of about 1300. There is no competition in the trade and so they have got the monopoly of the sale of matches in the province. [...] The Instructors also went round to the homes of the cottage workers of the locality and helped them in solving their technical difficulties and instiucted them in the use of new appliances.
