The assault produced much consternation in the city and an impression got abroad that the attempt was made by the City Inspector on the life of the Pundit for his exposing him in the Press under the belief that the authorities being against the Pundit would take no notice of the matter. [...] The facts of the case were brought to the notice of the Judicial Commissioner who transferred the case to another District The complainants when beyond the influence of the Magistrate and Police of Kheri quietly told the sri tale of their annoyance and said that they had never any complaint against the Taluqdar it was the Police that had instigated them to file a complaint. [...] Hirday Narayan and that if a deaf ear was turned to the earnest prayers of the cultured and wealthy community of Cawnpore it is because the quarrel was between the Congress party and the Collector and that therefore the persecution of political opponents was resorted to by the Local Government as one of the master-strokes of policy. [...] It was his well-known hostility to the Congress which had made the District Officers and the Police authorities so defiant towards the Congresswallahs; and the Cawnpore case is simply one of the numerous instances of political persecution to which the supporters of the Congress-movement have lately come to be subjected at the hands of the ruling authorities. [...] Parsons the District Superintendent of Police on the left sat the counsels for the Coplainant and the signatories to the memorial addressed to H. H. the Lieutenant-Governor in front next to the Commissioner's table was the Reporters' lodge.
