Watters left behind him a work ready for the press on the travels of Yuan-Chwang in India in the 7th Century A. D. The only translation into English of the Travels and the Life of Yuan-Chwang the one made by the late Mr. [...] As regards the author's method of transliterating the name of the pilgrim I annex the copy of a letter by myself in the Journal of our society. [...] In very early times the seat of the family was in the district now bearing the name Kuei-te tst)- foo in the east of Ronan and it was afterwards removed for a time to the neighbourhood of the present Ts'ao.chou in Shantung. [...] The other Kcës were according to some accounts the representatives of the ancient emperors Huang Ti and Yao and accoring to other accounts the representatives of the founders of the Hsia and Yin dynasties.' Man's fief comprised the modern prefecture of Chen-chow in Ronan together with the adjacent territory. [...] But the second son of the family entered the Buddhist church and Yuan-chuang smitten with the love of the strange religion followed his brother to the various monasteries at which the latter sojourned.
