The necessity for conserving our cash resources at the present time is a matter of the first importance in view of the extensive programme of replanting we have undertaken and the demands for new plant and buildings which will have to be met within the next three or four years. [...] Instead of one Profit and Loss and Appropriation Account we now have a Profit and Loss Account which shows the net profit after charging the amount written off Machinery the provision for taxation and a contribution to the Gandhi National Memorial Fund; and an Appropriation Account which shows the total sum available for distribution and how it is proposed to dispose of it. [...] We were able to arrange for the Consulting Engineer on the Secretaries' staff to include a visit to both divisions of the Company in his recent tour of the tea districts in order that he could discuss with the Managers at site a programme of building and machinery improvements. [...] In our opinion and to the best of our information and according to the explanations given to us ther id accounts give the information required by the Companies Act 1948 in the manner so required and give a true and fair view in the case of the balance sheet of the state of the Company's affairs as at 3Ist Deceinbea949 itnd in the case of the revenue account and the profit and loss account of the [...] for the following purposes :- To receive and pass the Directors' Report and Accounts for the year ended 31st December 1949 To Declare a Dividend To elect a Director To fix Auditors' remuneration and to transact the ordinary business of the Company.
