[...] In the latter part of the year there was some agitation on the platform and in the Press regaring the proposed boundaries of the new Orissa province and the recommendations of the Joint Select Committee while agreeable to the Oriyas were viewed by the Telugus with extreme repunance and an active crusade against certain details of the scheme was in progress when the year closed. [...] A conference of all the interested parties icluding the representatives of the Governments of Madras Cochin and Travancore was convened by the Government of India at Simla in June and at New Delhi in November in order to discuss the administrative and fiscal adjustments involved in the development of the Cochin Harbour. [...] Arrangements have been made for the sale of the products of the cottage industries of the Presidency in the European markets and an annual grant of Rs. [...] The outstanding feature of the year in the Public record of the Department of Public Works was Works the completion of the Cauvery-Mettur Project by 14th July 1934 and the inauguration ceremony of the Cauvery-Mettur Irrigation system by His Excellency the Governor on 21st August when the dam and reservoir were named after His Excellency.
