Administration Report on the Jails of Orissa for the Year 1940

Although the acquisition of land and the construction of the additional potimeter wall around it joining up the existing wall and of the latrines and the bathing platforms for the expanded area were administratively approved by Government during the year under report for being putt injaand as a first step towards the materialisation of the above project all these items of work were completed wi [...] The case of the second division prisoner who volunteered for service in the Andamans referred to in paragraph 4 of my last year's report was reviewed by the Provincial Government during the year under report and he was drafted there towards the close of the year in consultation Nitith the authorities of the Andamans and Nicobar Islands. [...] The Board of Visitors of the Monghyr Juvenile Jai] at their sixth monthly meeting reviewed the case of one Orissa juvenile prisoner and recommended the remission of the unexpired portion of his sentence under rule 27 of the rules prescribed for the management of that juvenile jail. [...] (4) Clothing and bedding.—The increase is due to the rise in population supply of bed-sheets to the prisoners of the South Orissa jails and also to the renewal of warm prison clothing in some of the jails the value of which has gone high. [...] (6) Moving prisoners.—The increase is due to more transfer of prisoners owing to the rise in popultion and also due to introduction of the system of debiting the expenditure incurred on account of transfer of convicted prisoners confined in the South Orissa jails to the Jail Department as is the practice in the North Orissa Jails instead of to the Police Department as was previously done.
