Due to the closure of ill-attended voluntary schools and the exodus of pupils from large Cities at the beginning of the year owing to the war. [...] In spite of the decrease in the total number of teachers the number of trained teachers increased from 19 432 to 19 781 and the percentage of the trained element' from 42.3 to 43.6. [...] After the outbreak of the disturbances the District end Municipal School Boards of Ahmedabad and Surat and the District School Boards of Kaira Panchmalials Broach and the Bombay Suburban District ceased to function. [...] The reports of the Principals of colleges and of the various educational officers chew that although the education of boys and girls suffered during the course of the disturbances everything possible was done during the second term to make up for the loss of work in the first term. [...]
