Clay): On the 19th of November last I informed the Council that it was the intention of Goernment on someday before the budget was taken up if we could possibly do so to give the House an opportunity of discussing the final form of the hydo-electrio grid scheme aLd the connected operations together with the report of the Expert Committee which.had just been received at the time when I [...] But during 1935 Sir William Stampe came to the cmclusion that the scheme or rather the first instalment of the scheme as sanctioned by the Secretary of State had undergone such large changes and had expanded to such an extent beyond his original estimate that it was necessary to recast the whole scheme both in the light of his experience and in the light of the criticisms offered by this commi [...] C. Chintamani : Sir I beg to move with your permission. by way of an amendment to the resolution before the House that the following be substituted for the resolution : While generally approving the revised estimate of the Hydro-Electric Grid Scheme as amended by the Grid Enquiry Committee of 1935 this Council recommends to Government that progress in the execution of the scheme should b [...] I hope it will not be understood that I am lacking in a just appreciation of the excellence and the magnitude of the scheme or of the benefits that it is calculated to confer upon the province as a whole in its agricutural and industrial life if I venture to put in a word of caution in respect of progress of the scheme. [...] As I understand this recommendation the idea is that the progress of the scheme will depend on the realisation of the amount of the demand for current.
